Each year, about 29 people die from grain bin entrapments in the U.S., according to a report from Purdue University.
In an effort to prevent those deaths, the CHS Seeds for Stewardship program has provided more than $240,000 in grants and matches for grain bin safety equipment and training since 2018.
In addition, CHS provides financial support to Nationwide Agribusiness, which has provided rescue tubes and grain entrapment training to 342 fire departments across more than 30 states since 2018.
That support means the world to Joey Greibrok, a third-generation farmer and CHS customer near Glenville, Minn., whose father was rescued from a grain bin by the Clarks Grove Fire Department and five other local departments. Emergency responders used a rescue tube – and training on how to use that equipment – provided by Nationwide. “It’s unbelievable how fast they showed up,” Greibrok says in the video below. “You could tell they were trained. They knew what to do. They didn’t panic."
