Soybean processing
Creating soy products for the food and fuel industries
We work with farmers and cooperatives throughout the Midwest and beyond to originate soybeans for processing at Mankato and Fairmont, Minnesota. All year soybeans are delivered to the facilities and then processed into oil, fuel, meal and flour. These value-added soybean products are sold around the world to make food and ingredients for livestock feed, pet food and fuel.
Soybean value chain
The Mankato and Fairmont processing facilities receive soybeans, remove the hulls and prepare the beans for crushing. Crude soybean oil is extracted from the beans, and then further refined into food-grade soybean oil, or Savorysoy®. It can then be further refined into an epoxidized soybean oil, or PlastiSoy®. The meal created from the crushing process goes on to be used by local livestock farmers. Soybean hulls that are also used as animal feed. Food grade soy flake, soy flour, or soy grits can also be made from soybean protein.
