Each year, about 29 people die from grain bin entrapments in the U.S., according to a report from Purdue University.

In an effort to prevent those deaths, the CHS Seeds for Stewardship program has provided more than $202,000 in grants and matches for grain bin safety equipment and training since 2018.

In addition, CHS provides financial support to Nationwide Agribusiness, which has provided rescue tubes and grain entrapment training to 272 fire departments across 31 states since 2014.

That support means the world to Joey Greibrok, a third-generation farmer and CHS customer near Glenville, Minn., whose father was rescued from a grain bin by the Clarks Grove Fire Department and five other local departments. Emergency responders used a rescue tube – and training on how to use that equipment – provided by Nationwide. “It’s unbelievable how fast they showed up,” Greibrok says in the video below. “You could tell they were trained. They knew what to do. They didn’t panic."
